These listings were last checked in September 2022. If you notice something to be improved, please send us your details. Thanks.
The city of Saigon is relatively rich in green spaces and tree-covered parks and locals take full advantage of the ample real estate. Unlike parks in the West which are places to reflect and get away from the manic pace of city life, parks in HCMC can feature a flurry of activity. It’s not uncommon to see a group of ladies practising tai chi with swords a few metres away from an aerobics class with five-foot-high speakers blaring Asian techno. There are also places for the youth of HCMC to gather and some parks will be filled to the brim with groups of friends and couples on dates sitting on rented mats while munching on street food. If you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet, remember that parks in HCMC are busier during the mornings and evenings when residents take advantage of the cooler temperatures and non-working hours. If you’re just looking for a place to read a book with maybe a cup of coffee, here are some suggestions:

Introduction to Golf section
Golf enthusiasts in Saigon/HCMC do not need to take long trips to the Highlands or coastal cities just to play the game they love. Less than two hours away are some of the most exciting courses in the country. Accompanying these courses are some excellent resorts for golfers that wish to play consecutive days in a row, or enjoy the scenery and relax from city life.
Considered by golfasia.com as the best course in the south, Long Thanh Golf Club & Residential Estate is a 36-hole golf course situated in peaceful countryside. Both courses are designed to test the ability of everyone from beginners to more advanced players. Forty-five minutes away from the city center, golfers will find Vietnam’s first international championship course, Song Be Golf Resort.
A challenging feat for even experienced players, this walking course is considered one of the most difficult in the country. Built-in 1994, The Vietnam Golf & Country Club is only 17 kilometers away from the city but is located on an impressive 300 hectares of land and consists of two championship courses. Courses were created using minimal land alteration and feel quite natural.
Only ninety minutes away, golfers will find the Dong Nai Golf Resort. If you are a lover of gorgeous backdrops and plenty of amenities, this 27-hole golf course will impress you. There are many more excellent golf courses throughout Vietnam, but some of the best are located just outside of Ho Chi Minh City, with plenty of lavish amenities, local and international F&B facilities, and courses shaped around Vietnam’s natural beauty

Introduction to Cinema section
Whether you are a cinema aficionado or looking to spend an evening with friends going to the movies in Saigon, you can catch all the latest blockbusters and local films in cinemas all over Ho Chi Minh City. The first IMAX is in VivoCity Mall in District 7, with more theaters planned in the near future. There are two leading chains of movie theaters in Saigon – Galaxy Cinemas and CGV Cinemas, both offering Hollywood blockbusters in the English language with Vietnamese subtitles.
Other than these two, BHD Cineplex and Lotte Cinema offer 2D and 3D cinema experiences, with some movies available in English. Cinebox, which has two locations in the city, shows mostly Vietnamese movies. Most theaters also have different categories of tickets, from VIP to standard. VIP seats will be larger and more comfortable.
Going to the cinema in Saigon is cheaper than in the West, especially the food, and, contrary to other Southeast Asian countries, there is not much difference in the customs. You can normally choose where to sit on a computer screen. In some cinemas, though, you get your seats assigned by the cashier, and, depending on their mindset, they may cluster their customers together in the corner, while the rest of the cinema is empty.
Occasionally, the government censors a Hollywood blockbuster aired in movie theaters in Vietnam, but that’s rather rare. Censorship usually affects graphic scenes of violence and sexuality. The movie schedules can be retrieved from the respective cinema websites. Online booking is also available, and you may choose whether to pay immediately or pay later for your movie ticket. If you decide to pay on arrival, you should appear about 25 minutes early.

Introduction to Wellness section
Saigon’s spas and beauty centers are some of the best places to relax in Southeast Asia, with everything from rejuvenating skincare treatments and mud baths to vigorous body scrubs and restful Vietnamese massages. Be prepared to fall in love with the city’s spa culture – you may not want to leave.
Of course, top spas are not complete without a full suite of extras to make you feel pampered and relaxed – expect jacuzzi, sauna, and steam rooms to be available to most luxury spa guests, as well as fitness centers in the larger locations. Welcome, and farewell drinks are other thoughtful touches.
For couples, there are plenty of great romantic packages, with sensuous massages and luxurious pampering sessions to truly elevate your vacation or honeymoon experience. Popular treatments include massage therapy (with Western, Thai, Shiatsu, and Vietnamese options), facial and hair care, pedicures, reflexology, manicures, and face whitening. Be sure to ask each individual spa about their signature massage treatment.
Many of the top spas are situated inside one of the city’s numerous 5-star hotels, but there are some other gems to be found around Ho Chi Minh City too – many of them in converted and renovated villas, replete with timeless classical decor and calming spacious treatment rooms.

We all have days when we just need to unwind and release the tension in our bodies, especially if you’re an expat or traveller who is going around Vietnam. A massage is great for those days, but what if you’re feeling lazy and you don’t want to go out?
There are quite a few home service massage companies and masseuses in HCMC who work independently who may well come to you. Simply type the keywords “matxa tan nha” (which means massage at home) into Google search and you will easily find a list of services along with their contact numbers. Most of the websites are in Vietnamese so you might need to have Google translate it to English for you, and, if you do decide to call them and they don’t speak English, just give the phone over to a Vietnamese friend to ask about their services.
Beware, some may offer you a “happy ending”. If you’re not looking for that, feel free to say no – no pressure!
How much does it cost to have home service massage in Ho Chi Minh City?
The fees for home service massage may vary depending on the duration of your massage or the type of massage you’re getting. To give you an idea, the price range starts from VND200,000 per hour, but it can get a bit more expensive than that.
If you want something more standardised, try the home massage package from Ngọc Anh Massage Centre where trained and certified masseuses will come to you. Of course, with this package, laziness comes at a price: you will have to buy 10 sessions at VND350,000 each, and use them within one year. You can purchase this package at the centre itself, 31 Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm, D1 or 36-38 Nguyễn Cư Trinh, D1. And remember: when it comes to massage therapists, size does not matter, only skill and strength.

An energetic massage is a therapeutic massage that releases vital energy, improves blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulates the immune system. A night out with your friends at a bar after work might work from time to time, but an energetic massage goes beyond that. It is done when a person feels an energetic disbalance. It means that a person is not medically sick, there’s just that unresolved tension or physical and emotional stress that needs to be unwined.
Different techniques are used including acupressure, or massage on meridian paths, Tui Na massage or cupping glass. The idea is that the therapist manually scans the body for the amount of stored energy and helps it achieve full circulation in order for the body and mind to connect and balance, emotions to be eased and your soul to be rejuvenated. Energetic massage is effective for muscular and articular pains caused by sport, aging or stress.

Massage is no longer exclusive to luxury spas and upscale health clubs in HCMC; you can now find it anywhere from clinics to hospitals and even airports, not to mention nearly every street in every ward of HCMC. Whether it is Thai, deep tissue or four hands that you are after, you can find it here. There is a large range of spas throughout the city, and prices to suit all pockets.
From facials to mud baths and aromatherapy to hot stone massage, HCMC’s spas and massage parlours and provide respite from the outside world. Particularly charming are the spas with antique decor housed in old villas, complete with swimming pools, saunas and garden menus. Most of the spas in town offer special rates for couples if you want to pamper yourself with someone special. Just be careful to specify “no happy ending” if that’s not what you’re looking for.
There are two main massages available in Ho Chi Minh City; the Traditional Vietnamese massage and Thai Massage but there are also other techniques available too.
Traditional Vietnamese massage
Traditional Vietnamese massage, or the “Tam quat”, focuses on stimulating blood circulation by punching and clapping on the treatment areas. The goal is to relieve pain by putting pressure directly on the muscle to help you relax.
Thai Massage
Thai Massage is a technique is more on compressing and stretching to improve flexibility. Your body will be stretched and put into yoga positions to relieve tension and boost flexibility.
Ventosa or Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy or Ventosa is a Chinese form of massage where warm cups are placed on the back to create a vacuum that draws a part of flesh into the cup. The cups are usually placed from the waist to shoulders for about 5 – 10 minutes to relieve pain, tension, and prevent cramps by working through the muscles. Be warned, cupping usually leaves a mark that looks like clotting or bruises but it is not as painful as you would expect.
Hot Stones
Smooth and heated stones are placed on the neck, shoulder, back, or waist. The heat and the slight pressure of the stones loosens up the muscles and relieves pressure.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage applies pressure to your body using circular motions to relieve muscle tension. It is a gentle massage technique combined with the use of oil to moisturize your skin.
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu massage is a Japanese technique where the masseuse press on acupressure points, usually using their body weight to improve blood circulation.

Health and fitness should never be neglected and if you’re a yogi or you’re thinking of taking up yoga classes, Saigon has several places worth visiting.
Most of the larger establishments have Indian yoga masters and the pace is fast and furious, leaving lessons feeling like a Bikram class, given the climate. There are also oases of calm to be found in the more contemplative meditation centres. Many offer a free first lesson, so don’t hesitate to sample the many teachers and their various styles and intensities before settling.

Yoga teachings are simplified into five points, showing specific ways to develop physical and mental health as well as spiritual growth through proper exercise (Asanas), proper breathing (Pranayama), proper relaxation (Savasana), proper diet (vegetarian), positive thinking (Vedanta) and meditation (Dhyana).

HCMC is viewed as a ladies’ paradise by some. There are not many places in the world where you can have someone in your neighbourhood wash your hair, massage your scalp, and cut and style your hair in less than two hours for no more than VND100,000-200,000 (USD5-10). Vietnamese hairdressers are constantly learning new techniques on hair colouring or hair extension, which may be different compared Western standards, to make sure that they give you the best service possible.
Most hairdressers in HCMC do not speak English very well, if at all, though you may happen across some fluent French speakers. If you are still learning Vietnamese, this is where your local friends will once again come in handy. Bring someone who can communicate with the hairdresser for you when you do go to someone who does not speak English. Not unless you are adept in Vietnamese or a skilled body language communicator, it is strongly suggested that you bring a translator with you in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises – especially right before an important event or date! Otherwise, going for a simple hair style (perhaps using a clipper, number three all over, for example) is also an option.
If you are willing to pay a little more, HCMC’s luxury salons offer experienced hair gurus from around the world and a range of treatments at prices that will still amaze you when compared with the West. Many Westerners are wary of getting their hair coloured or treated at a salon in Vietnam, largely because the Vietnamese hair type is so much coarser and the colour is very dark, but there are actually a number of options for safely changing your hair colour or style in HCMC.
If you’re just in need of a quick trim, there are also many street-side stations that do quick, cheap cuts, although if you want a more stylish trim, it might not be ideal. Keep in mind, especially if you don’t speak the language or have a translator, not to say yes to every question you are asked, otherwise you will have to shell out for additional services that you may not even realise are already happening.

Considering the large number of Yoga centres that are now available across Ho Chi Minh City, it seems hard to believe that the love for feeling flexible and soothing stress has been a relatively recent event. When it first arrived in Vietnam in the 1960’s, yoga failed to catch the imagination of the Vietnamese public.

Gyms & Fitness
There are enough gyms in Ho Chi Minh City to satisfy any workout junkie. Despite the small sea of beer bellies, there is a dedicated portion of the city’s population who run, swim and pump iron like there is no tomorrow.
In their favor, full-featured gyms have sprung up – mainly in District 1 and in various 4-star and 5-star hotels. Some independent gyms exist, offering the latest equipment, such as California Fitness, Fit24, Nutrifort Fitness, The Landmark Health Club, the Vincharm Health Club, and many more.
High-end gyms in Ho Chi Minh City range in price but hover around the $100-150 US range, and less if yearly memberships are acquired.
More local, less accommodating gyms go as low as $10-25 US, with varying degrees of amenities. If you’re not too concerned about pools, jacuzzis, saunas, and ice baths, then the small gym around the corner might be just as suitable.

Outdoor Activities
The Mekong Delta is within very easy reach of the city and there is no shortage of adventure here. Trips in small boats along tiny rivulets with overhanging trees are amazing. Some traditional wooden bridges are pretty hair-raising, especially if you are cycling. Both within the city and in the outlying areas, there are many outdoor activities to be enjoyed.
Q&A

Go with a Vietnamese friend if you want to enjoy paintball in HCMC, especially if you’re an expat because paintball clubs usually offer promotions almost monthly and the only way you can take advantage of them is to have somebody who can read and speak Vietnamese.
If you want to have a true jungle paintball experience, take the 125km trip to Madagui Forest City, Lâm Đồng Province, which has one of the largest paintball fields in Vietnam. But if you just want to do it for fun and you’re not game for a hard core session yet, check out the BCR Shooting Range nestled in a resort with various activities.

Hashing is an exciting activity that is not new to Saigon. When you see a group of people wearing running/jogging wear coming together, getting on a bus or all muddy and dirty in the restaurant, that’s most likely them. Hashing has been around for quite some time and is generally known locally.
If you’re new to hashing, it is generally people coming together to walk or run, depending on your preference. A trail is set, most of the time 2 sets. One for walkers and another for runner and you have meeting points so you can switch trails as needed. After this, you top off the day with a lovely meal or a bottle of beer.
The venue changes from time to time and so, you’ll have to check the website for details to weekly runs. There is a Hashing group in Ho Chi Minh City. Check out their website.

Saigon is a very active city and is welcoming to a lot of various sports and activities. If you’re looking for skateparks and the like, you can take your skateboard to the park in front of the Vincom Centre located at Le thanh Ton cor, Dong Khoi, Ben Nghe. You can also go to Trần Quốc Thảo Bridge, Võ Văn Kiệt Boulevard (especially near Ton That Dạm), 23/9 Park, or at Saigon Outcast. On a weekend afternoon, you’ll be surprised to the plenty of fellow skateboarders flipping decks and other tricks. In District 7, the many skateboarders ride day and night in the front entrance of the Crescent Mall, Nguyen Van Linh street side.
For info on other skate parks in Saigon, head to Saigon Skatepark.
