Montessori International School of Vietnam

At The Montessori International School of Vietnam, our goal is to provide a safe, learning environment that allows your child to develop into a happy, confident and responsible little person. A little person with a love of learning and exploration!

By following the Montessori philosophy, we allow students the freedom to follow their own passions and interests. We allow students to develop essential skills and independence. We believe that we offer the best possible learning environment for students to excel whilst enjoying themselves.

About The Montessori International School of Vietnam

The first MIS campus opened in 2007 and we are proud to say our Thao Dien campus was the first Montessori school in Vietnam. At that time, our goal was to provide the best European style curriculum for nursery / kindergarten and primary students in Saigon. As time has gone on, we have been able to support other international schools in Ho Chi Minh City through training and coaching, so that our vision for developing student centred schools, inspired by the Montessori method, has continued to grow.

MISV is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS), a leading advocate of the Montessori philosophy, and is part of the AMS Pathway of Continuous School Improvement programme. This means that MIS is as committed to providing and sustaining quality Montessori programmes for our students now, as we were 14 years ago!

What is the Montessori philosophy?

“The education of the small child aims to prepare him for life, not for school.”
Dr. Maria Montessori

Put simply, the Montessori philosophy allows students enough freedom to discover and learn by themselves. The approach focuses on the development of personality and transferable skills, rather than learning by rote or memorising. At MIS, we strive to help young learners identify the link between school and the wider world as they develop into responsible young members of society.

This means that a Montessori classroom is a carefully prepared, peaceful but inspiring space where your child’s natural feelings of curiosity and wonder come alive.

As our goal is to provide the best early years education programme for your child, each age range has a carefully designed curriculum to follow.

Nursery / Pre-School Education Programme (18 – 36 months)

Our expertly prepared programme of Montessori pre-school activities allows your child to develop practical life skills, enrich their vocabulary and develop fine and gross motor skills, whilst doing fun things like playing, jumping, chatting and colouring!

With the freedom to explore and to revisit activities at their own pace, the Montessori Nursery programme at MIS is a fantastic choice for parents who love to see their children flourish at their own speed.

At MIS we combine Montessori approaches with Resources for Infant Educarers ® methods to provide a safe and comfortable environment for your child. This helps them to develop emotionally and intellectually. Our variety of age appropriate activities challenge young minds and allow your child to naturally build confidence.

Kindergarten / Primary School Programme (3 – 6 years old)

As you will no doubt be aware, by the time your child reaches 3 years old, they have developed their own personality, their own interests and their own ways of expressing themselves! The MIS Kindergarten / Primary school programme encourages your child to continue to follow their own path whilst introducing concepts such as geography, science, self-discipline and self-esteem (and many, many more).

In the Practical Life area, our students are encouraged to copy the behaviour that they have seen at home (cleaning, tidying, organising etc). This means that they begin to understand the importance of a ‘job well done’ and how to behave as part of a community. At this stage, your child’s self-expression skills are developed via simple word reading, sentence building and fundamental grammar activities. Your child will also start to explore the world around them via activities that focus on natural sciences and geography.

Foreign language lessons are also offered at MIS Thao Dien and MIS The River House as part of our Kindergarten/ Primary school programme. As English is the first language of the school, we also offer French, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese Mandarin for kindergarten / primary school students.

In the Bilingual Binh An Campus, where we follow the Vietnamese Early Childhood Education programme, we offer English as the second language.

Elementary Education Programme (6 – 12 years)

Maria Montessori saw that elementary students not only have a wonderful imagination but also have the ability to understand abstract ideas and to approach them with a ‘reasoning’ mind. She also noticed that elementary students are very sociable and love working together on projects with their peers.

Because of this, the Elementary programme at MIS is based upon ‘5 Great Lessons’ (fact-based stories that have been specifically created to engage your child during this developmental stage). By capturing a child’s imagination and inspiring them to make connections between ideas, our programme begins to prepare them for the academic work that will see them through into adulthood.

The MIS Elementary education programme covers Maths, Geometry, Geography, Biology, Language, History, Music and Art. Activities in each area are designed to provide your child with a thorough understanding of key academic subjects and key concepts.
