Cars used to be very much a minority form of transportation in the city until the recent years. They are now though, increasing in numbers at the rate of 139 per day. If this continues unabated, the city’s already chaotic traffic problems will only get a lot worse. In a city that is very motorbike centric, getting around by car can be very problematic. There is hope that the new Rapid Light Transport system, due to open its first line in 2018, will ease matters. It is possible to rent a car in the city, but only with a driver, because the international driving license is not accepted in Vietnam, you would have to pass the Vietnamese driving exam to get a local driving license in order to be able to drive a car by your very own.
