The city of Saigon is relatively rich in green spaces and tree-covered parks and locals take full advantage of the ample real estate. Unlike parks in the West which are places to reflect and get away from the manic pace of city life, parks in HCMC can feature a flurry of activity. It’s not uncommon to see a group of ladies practising tai chi with swords a few metres away from an aerobics class with five-foot-high speakers blaring Asian techno. There are also places for the youth of HCMC to gather and some parks will be filled to the brim with groups of friends and couples on dates sitting on rented mats while munching on street food. If you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet, remember that parks in HCMC are busier during the mornings and evenings when residents take advantage of the cooler temperatures and non-working hours.
