Cupping is very common in Saigon, especially for those who want to unwind after a stressful week at work. It is basically a traditional medicine technique used by acupuncturists on areas of blocked energy to help rejuvenate internal organs and meridians. Cupping is claimed to activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation and to assist deep tissue repair. It may help to release toxins and stimulate blood flow.

Unorthodox cupping treatments are used in clearing the colon, reducing stretch marks, and improving the look of varicose veins. Many people report feeling relaxed and revitalised after a treatment.

A cup made of glass, bamboo, ceramic or plastic is placed onto the skin where reduced air pressure created inside the cup by flame or manual suction draws skin and surface muscles in. Cups can be static, running, wet or popping depending on the treatment goal. There is a small risk of burned skin with fire cupping. After a cupping treatment you may bruise, but it is painless and marks should go away in a few days.
