Ambulances in Saigon are equipped with the basics, but this is not enough for some emergencies such as a heart attack or stroke. FV Hospital and Family Medical Practice have ambulances fitted with state-of-the-art equipment for all emergencies. These ambulances allow for on-site or en-route treatment. Nevertheless, when permitted a taxi is often the fastest solution.
If you are injured, become unconscious and need expensive surgery but don’t have proof of medical insurance, you may find yourself in a lot of difficulty. Sometimes critically injured foreigners are better off being transferred to another country, even their home country, than receiving service in Vietnam. Remember that nothing happens without proof of insurance. Carry the appropriate papers so that this kind of situation can be avoided. Program the phone numbers of the hospital where you are insured into your mobile phone. Note that public and private medical services do not have cooperation agreements.
