The literal meaning of Áo Dài is “long shirt” as Áo translates as shirt while Dài means “long.” It is the national garment of Vietnam worn by both male and female especially during special occasions. Many expats and foreigners also buy ready made Áo Dài as souvenirs from Saigon and other areas in the country but of course, nothing beats the beauty of having one tailor fit to your body.
Áo Dài can be made of silk, chiffon, lace, satin or embroidered silk. With different kinds of material as well as types of design, the cost can vary. For example, a set of chiffon Áo Dài would cost from VND1M-VND3M, whilst a set of lace Áo Dài costs from VND2M-6M. If you require a special decoration for your Áo Dài, expect to pay up to VND10M.
