Whether you’re living in the city or in the province, there are always health risks for children, especially for those below seven years old. The common diseases in Ho Chi Minh City and the rest of Vietnam, especially for young children are coughs, cold, mild fever, heat stroke, diarrhea and those that are carried by mosquitoes, such as dengue fever and malaria but these can all be avoided through common prevention methods like using mosquito repellent and washing your hands frequently. Many foreigners and expats, especially children, also suffer from stomach aches and diarrhea because of the food they eat most likely at street food stalls or their stomachs are just not used to the street food in Vietnam. Please take note that tap water in Vietnam is not potable.
