Living in the big city means having easy access to everything including traditional ways of healing. It doesn’t matter if you’re an expat, a traveler or a local who wants to try acupuncture, visit one of Ho Chi Minh City’s spas and have your qi flowing again in no time!

What is acupuncture?

Meridians, or pathways, cover the human body. Each path is linked with a specific physiological system and organ. Qi flows along these pathways. Acupuncturedirects the flow of qi to where it is needed and restricts it in areas where it is in excess. Pain occurs when qi is blocked. Meridians have points (hundreds of them) near the body’s surface where qi can be directed by the insertion of hair-thin needles. Each point has an associated therapeutic effect. A headache may be treated by the insertion of needles in the head, hands, and feet – some distance, yes, but meridians run through the entire body.

There is nothing painful about the insertion of acupuncture needles, which are nothing like hypodermic needles. Sensations vary from feelings of no pain to slight pinching, heaviness, warmth, aches and tingling. Needles are kept in for 20-45 minutes. Some people become deeply relaxed and may even fall asleep. After treatment many people feel energised, sleepy or lighter.
