There are no current outbreak of dangerous diseases. Expats and tourists are not required to get any vaccinations for entry into Vietnam. Nonetheless, certain vaccines are recommended by some doctors, namely hepatitis A and B, dengue fever, malaria, rabies, Japanese encephalitis, tetanus, tuberculosis and typhoid. Also, keep a note of your booster shots.

Malaria pills taken daily are discouraged by most doctors – particularly if you are going to be in Vietnam for a long time. Though the risk of contracting malaria in HCMC is minimal, you should take precautions if travelling to the Highlands. In larger cities, dengue fever is of greater concern. The most important vaccine jabs which we would recommend are for tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis A and B and poliomyeliti.
