One of the most frequently asked questions in Vietnam by expats and first time visitors concerns the ice, which is supplied in abundance. There is a huge market in commercial ice making – and yes, it is usually safe! Pure, filtered water is commonly frozen at a central plant before being distributed to restaurants, bars and even street stands. Note that when you receive ice, ensure that it is cylindrical as that is how it leaves the central plant. Ice cubes or “rocks” might be homemade, don’t consume it if you don’t trust the seller.
