Saigon is the motorcycle capital of the world and both locals and expats use this as the main mode of transportation. For a quick fix like a flat tire or a broken chain, there is always a roadside repair shop within walking or, if you are lucky, coasting distance. Look for crossed tires or an air tank during the day and a lit candle at night. If it’s just a quick top-up of air, expect to pay VND2,000-5,000 per tire. Whatever you do, do not drive on a flat tire.

It will cost you a bit of time and sweat to use your two legs to get to a street repair vendor, but it will cost less than if you drove and damaged the tube beyond repair. Tube repair will cost between VND15,000 - VND25,000 per puncture and if you need to change the whole tube, it should range from VND65,000 - VND120,000 depending on the quality of the tube. Make sure to keep an eye on the repair as some unscrupulous repairmen will tear the stem from the tube to get you to buy a whole new tire.
