Best Restaurants in District 7
As one would expect, the best restaurants in District 7 are mainly not Vietnamese and are of a very high standard. This area is, after all, the most Westernised in the city and driving round here during the day, one is left with a feeling that this is more like southern Europe than Southern Vietnam. It’s swish and polished and the restaurants and bars reflect that. It is noticeable that the car showrooms for Porche and BMW are here, and in a city full of Honda and Yamaha motorbikes, this is where you’ll find the Harley Davidson dealership. There is a large Korean population living here as well as the usual mix of American, Australasian and European. Despite this Westernisation, there is a very limited internet presence by most of the establishments. Here are some of the best restaurants in District 7.
CR1-07, 103 Ton Dat Tien, The Crescent, Phu My Hung, D7

Billing itself as an Italian seafood restaurant, La Cucina is much more than that. Featuring two large domed pizza ovens, this is a place that takes the food but not itself seriously. Their seafood is imported fresh, daily and it shows in the quality. The pizzas are American/Italian but thankfully more Italian. The thin crusts here are as they should be, light and crispy, allowing the flavour of the topping to stand up to that of the bread. The restaurant has an extensive, though not expensive wine cellar.
90 Cao Trieu Phat, Phu My Hung, D7

Viva Tapas is a delightful, small restaurant in Phu My Hung. The tapas here is as good as you’ll get anywhere outside Spain. That a Yorkshireman should open a Spanish tapas restaurant in Vietnam, might seem a little odd, but owner Jeff’s enthusiasm for the food of Spain shines through and works perfectly. The staff are well trained and welcoming and the ambience is perfectly suited to the food. This place should be a lot busier, it is easily one of the best restaurants in District 7. Great food washed down with the perfect Sangria, what more could anyone want.

This is an Australian sports bar with a difference. The difference makes it qualify as a restaurant and a very good one at that. The location, in the Crescent, presents lovely views of the lake, especially at night. It advertises itself as a bistro, but this is the place where local Aussies gather to watch their favourite sports. It’s not cheap but the quality is there and the atmosphere is really good. The restaurant gets really busy day and night especially at the weekends and unsurprisingly Boomerang’s customers, keep coming back.
SB11-2 Sky Garden, Phu My Hung, D7

A plain and simple Pizza and Pasta place in the midst of a mainly Korean area, Red Tomato has picked up a strong local following. With seating for only about 30 people, it is one of the few places in District 7 that opens late at night and for this reason has become the go to place for hungry expats. The food is very good indeed and a few specialities like their Seafood Gratin with Rice and the Barbecue Ribs deserve a special mention.
S 28-1 Sky Garden 1, Pham Van Nghi Bac, Phu My Hung, D7

The Ganesh group have now opened 6 Restaurants throughout Vietnam. They are known for serving authentic Indian food in excellently appointed restaurants and Ganesh 4 in D7 is no exception. The restaurant was refurbished recently and is a wonderful place to experience the delights of Indian cookery. It is fully deserving of its place in any list of the best restaurants in District 7. The restaurant is cited by most as the best place for top quality authentic Indian food in the city.

This huge restaurant is designed around the concept of preserving traditional Champa culture. The restaurant covers 5,000 square metres and is incredibly striking from the outside. Inside, diners sit surrounded by beautiful artefacts from the Champa Kingdom. It is like sitting in a high end museum. The seafood buffets are spectacular and this is an ideal venue for a group of people to enjoy a special occasion. In addition to a cigar and cognac bar, the restaurant boasts an extensive wine cellar of more than 1,000 wines.
Unit CR1-12, The Crescent, Phu My Hung,
District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The El Gaucho chain is growing all the time, however they manage to maintain their quality control of the food that they are serving. They have restaurants in Bangkok and Hanoi as well as their two in Ho Chi Minh City. This is the best steak that you will get in Ho Chi Minh City. Finest quality Steaks are their signature and the D7 venue has the added attraction of outdoor seating, affording lovely views of the lake. This is not cheap, but a welcome addition to the culinary delights of Saigon.
D01-09 Hoang Anh Gia Lai 3, Nguyen Huu Tho, D7
Tel: +84 28 2241910
Family run small bistro on Nguyen Huu Tho heading South from the main drag of Nguyen Van Linh. It has gained an incredibly loyal fan base especially among the expat community here. The British owner and his Vietnamese wife serve up simple food from both countries and do it very well. Edward’s Bistro serves up inexpensive food and is ideally suited to families.
R2-24 Hung Gia, 3 Bùi Bằng Đoàn, D7
Tel: +84 28 5410 3900
This is a well known and much loved bar and restaurant in a very good location in Phu My Hung. They serve excellent food at reasonably prices. Whilst it has more of a pub feel than that of a high class restaurant, the menu is extensive and the staff serve you with a smile and efficiency. The Sunday lunch here is hugely popular as is their famous all day breakfast. It is a popular place among the large expat community in this part of the city.
