Heart Institute Gala benefits Vietnamese Children with Heart Disease

Daily News - Saigon/HCMC: today

The Heart Institute of Ho Chi Minh City and the CMI (International Medical Center) are glad to announce for the 8th consecutive year the edition of the Heart Institute Gala to support Vietnamese destitute children suffering from heart diseases.

The purpose of this annual gala, that has been seeing its success increase over the years as one of the most prestigious events of HCMC, serves to raise the necessary funds to finance the growing demands of destitute children needing heart surgery at the Heart Institute of HCMC.

30,000 children are still waiting in Vietnam to receive the cardiac surgery that can save their lives.

The Introduction of Vital Cardiac Surgery to Vietnam

This mission started in the 1980s when Professor Alain Carpentier, an eminent French cardiac surgeon, was asked by the Vietnamese health authorities to introduce cardiac surgery in Vietnam. A high number of people were suffering from heart diseases and at this point there was no surgery available in the country.

This led to the creation of the Heart Institute of HCMC (Vien Tim) in 1992. It was the first establishment that could treat heart diseases in Vietnam. Very soon, it appeared that the families of a number of children could not afford the expenses of the operations. A Social Department at the Heart Institute was therefore created to cover the cost for the most destitute patients along with CMI well known high international standard medical center created as an outpatient clinic that reverses all its profits to the Social welfare department of the Heart Institute.

One Surgery = One Life Saved

For more than 20 years, 5,000 children have been saved thanks to the Social Department of the Heart Institute.

The good thing about children suffering from heart diseases is that they can have one operation and be cured for the rest of their lives!

Unfortunately, there are still many children waiting for vital surgery. In order to raise more funds, the Heart Institute of Ho Chi Minh City and the CMI decided, 8 years ago, to organize an annual charity gala.

Join the Heart Institute Gala to Help Children in Need

This year’s Gala will be presented under the theme of the Agatha Christie’s undoubtedly greatest mysterious story: "Murder on the Orient Express”.

Last year, 100 percent of the CMI’s benefits and the whole Charity Gala funds, were allocated to the Heart Institute of HCMC. It enabled the institute to achieve a multitude of inspirational challenges: to raise more funds, save the lives of more children with heart disease deprived of medical care, share the extraordinary knowledge acquired by all the Vietnamese cardiac surgeons and spread this knowledge worldwide.
