The Vietnamese take their singing seriously, so if you are a keen crooner, belter, screamer or wailer, check out some of Ho Chi Minh City's karaoke bars. Prices average between VND100,000 to VND120,000 per hour, depending on the room size. Drinks and snacks are available. A few brews or inspired cheerleading from enthusiastic hostesses may help motivate you to take the microphone if you are feeling sheepish.
Karaoke is a Japanese word which means 'empty orchestra'. In Saigon karaoke is big business and a popular pursuit. In fact, it seems like every square block of the city has its own karaoke hangout, not to mention the portable machines blaring out music and (usually) drunken vocals from so many HCMC living rooms. Inside karaoke bars you will find books jam-packed with words to classic and contemporary tunes, American rock and roll and, of course, beloved Vietnamese songs. You can rent a room or large suite by the hour, and generally, the more people you bring along, the more fun it is. Some karaokes do not have a good reputation, they are considered as hidden brothels because many prostitutes may work there. In this case, men pay to have girls accompany them in the room.
We are listing below some of the most popular and famous karaokes in Saigon:
King Karaoke is regularly cited as the best karaoke in Saigon. The rooms are swanky and luxurious and the service top-notch. It is also one of the most expensive: Their VIP rooms can cost VND800,000 per hour, not including drinks.
