Rex Hotel Holiday Events

accommodation - Saigon/HCMC: Dec. 14, 2016

The historic Rex Hotel overlooks Nguyen Hue walking street and is one of the most well-known and respected hotels in HCMC. A part of the city’s history for almost a century, the building began as an auto dealer and garage, and later re-established itself as a trading centre. Finally in 1961, it transformed into the beautiful hotel that is so beloved today.

During the American War, the hotel’s rooftop bar became known around the world for the evening press conferences held by journalists there. They nicknamed these the Five O’Clock Follies, as a slight towards the optimistic briefings they were handed by the U.S. commanders. The bar has maintained an enviable reputation as one of the city’s finest: in 1996, it was voted as one of the best bars in Southeast Asia by Newsweek Magazine, and in 2010 listed as one of the world’s 30 best bars on CNNgo.com by journalist and blogger Michelle Woo. Today, it is a delightful space in which guests can relax and enjoy the inventive cocktails.

The late-night Rex Rooftop Garden Bar is a wonderful sunset spot by day and a vibrant, exciting venue at night; the ambience becomes more lively as superb bands entertain the crowd with live rock, flamenco, jazz and Latin music. This is a superb venue for groups, parties, or business people trying to get some work done in the early evening. The bar serves seven creative cocktails and plenty of classics, with a Buy 1 Get 1 Free happy hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It currently has a promotion on all creative cocktails running until 20 December.

It really is an excellent place to go straight from work and watch the city change from day to night. With exciting drinks and food menus, it is equally suited as a spot for a romantic dinner for two. At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday nights, the band goes down to the ground floor and entertains the crowd on Nguyen Hue; passersby can pick up food and drink vouchers from hotel staff during the performance.

Rex Hotel’s Holiday Events

The warm ambience and low vantage of the Rex Rooftop Garden Bar is the perfect place to enjoy the festivities and get into the holiday mood. This is a cosy, intimate setting, whilst at the same time having plenty of room to let your hair down, dance and have fun. Christmas Dinner Party

On 24 December, the Rex Rooftop Garden Bar will host its glittering Christmas event, complete with a gift-giving Santa and three exclusive main dishes from which to choose, along with a salad bar and side dishes. To add to the fun, a lively flamenco band, a festive choir and talented DJs will be playing Christmas favourites throughout the party. Each ticket will cost VND2 million. This party will run from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Welcome 2017 Gala Dinner

Start the new year wining and dining in a truly luxurious setting. Kicking off the night with the hottest Latin melodies, Rex Hotel’s New Year’s Eve event will feature an endless supply of soft drinks, wine, beer and mineral water, as well as a celebratory champagne toast at the stroke of midnight. The gala dinner will include a fresh seafood buffet and delicious holiday dishes. Adult tickets cost VND3.6 million and children’s tickets are VND1.8 million. There will be a free ticket given out for groups of 10 or more, and if you book before 15 December, you will get 10% off.

Water Puppet Show

In a major coup for The Rex Hotel, it will become the first 5-star hotel to host a traditional water puppet show and cultural performance. This will be set in the beautiful Vertical Garden. Guests will enjoy this important and entertaining part of Vietnam’s heritage amidst lush surroundings, right in the centre of the hotel. Water puppetry originated in villages throughout the Red River Delta in North Vietnam in the 11th century, and recounts the daily lives of rural Vietnamese and the country’s folklore.
