Ceramics

While not famous for the high quality of its ceramics, Vietnam is an excellent place to stock up on everyday household items. Most items are painted in the traditional white and blue pattern, but as tourism has increased, shops have begun to stock more variety. Shoppers can pick up a full tea set for as little as VND100,000. The most popular spot to buy ceramics around Hanoi is in Bat Trang village.

Bat Trang village's shops produce both useable goods such as vases, plates, cups, bowls, teapots and sugar containers, and ornamental objects like statues and altars. Ceramics can be a greyish-white and feature painted abstract graphics or traditional village life scenes in blue and black inks. Should you wish to make your own masterpiece, you can attend a workshop to learn how to create mostly anything from clay. If that's all too much work you can choose to just paint a selection of readymade ceramics.
