Hanoi Museum

Shaped like an inverted pyramid and spread over nearly 5.4 hectares, Hanoi Museum opened in 2010 to mark Hanoi's 1,000 year anniversary. The exhibits can feel a bit scattered, as everything from ornamental trees to six hundred year-old weapons are on display, but the museum itself seems to be the main attraction despite what's on display inside. Hanoi Museum is only a 30-minute car ride from the centre of the capital.

There are over 50,000 artefacts on display at Hanoi Museum. Designed by German architects GMP, the museum is both attractive and functional with plenty of open space and surrounding foliage. Reach the upper floors by way of an ingenious spiral ramp. Floors one, two and three are used entirely for exhibition purposes while the fourth level houses conference and research rooms, offices and a library. Note that entrance to Hanoi Museum is free.
