Karaoke

Hanoians like to sing. Not just in the shower or after a few beers, but also on the street and at 12pm lunch hour karaoke sessions. So let out your inner songbird and join in the fun. Rates depend on the venue and time of day, but you can expect to shell out around VND100,000 per hour. Karaoke, whether the private room or portable street machine version, has remained extremely popular in Hanoi due in part to the city's rising economic fortunes and the desires of young people to express themselves. Keep in mind that not every venue will have English-language songs, not such a bad thing especially if you can read a little Vietnamese and you've got a couple of drinks under your belt!

'Empty orchestra'; this is the meaning of the Japanese word karaoke. In Hanoi karaoke remains good business and is particularly popular with the younger generation. You'll find hundreds of karaoke venues in Hanoi ranging from private rooms to impromptu street side hangouts. It is recommended to book a room ahead of time, especially on weekend nights. Drinks and snacks are always on offer and the audio-visual equipment is usually top-notch.
