The weekend has come and gone and you might have missed out on some of the happenings from around the country, so here’s a quick recap.

On August 27, the Vietnam Football Federation announced that it had appointed Mai Duc Chung as the acting head coach of the national football team. So far Vietnam’s team has taken home three wins, a draw and a loss, failing to secure a place in the semifinals.

Chung was the coach of Vietnam’s female football team, which clinched the gold medal at the SEA Games the same day the male football team lost.

Vietnam Airlines announced it will add 40 domestic flights, equivalent to nearly 8,000 seats on seven routes, to its schedule from September 1 to 4 to celebrate National Day (September 2). Flights include connections between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Da Nang, Da Lat, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc.

Regarding to weather, on August 27 the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said a storm named Pakhar was expected to make landfall in China’s Guangdong and Guangxi Provinces before weakening on the Vietnam-China border on August 28.

The Centre predicted Pakhar will cause downpours and possible flash floods and landslides in northern Vietnamese provinces.

Ten sixth graders at a school in Da Lat in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong were hospitalized on August 26 after the floor of their 60-year-old classroom collapsed, causing them to plunge to the ground floor.
