Weekend News Recap: 3-4 June
It’s been a hot and cold weekend in Vietnam, literally, with torrential downpours hitting the South and a massive heatwave baking the North – and the heat wasn’t limited to the weather, with the exam season in full swing. Still in Hanoi, controversial plans are underway to replace about 4,000 trees due to safety concerns and relocate another 1,300 trees to make way for road construction, which may not be seeing any motorbikes after the year 2030.
District tax departments are demanding that online shops operating via Facebook will now have to declare taxes. Speaking of entrepreneurship, there are potential warning signs for Uber in Ho Chi Minh City. Plus, ties between Vietnam and the United States just got warmer.
It’s been a mostly fine weekend, and a hot one if you’re in Hanoi, but keep safe and make sure you look both ways before you even cross the sidewalk!
