1) Charity gala raises 20 billion VND for children suffering heart diseases
A charity gala on October 8 night raised nearly 20 billion VND (900,000 USD) for the charity fund A healthy heart for you, which sponsors operations for poor children suffering from heart diseases.
Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh attended the event, which was co-organised by Vietnam Television and the military-run telecom group Viettel.
At the gala, participants met with many lucky children who have regained normal health and go to school thanks to the fund, and generous benefactors who donated to help cure the disadvantaged young patients.
The annual event has raised a total 110 billion VND (4.95 million USD) after eight years. The money was used to pay for operation for more than 3,000 under-16 heart patients.
Besides, the fund has also coordinated with hospitals to organize heart disease screening for over 30,000 children…
2) Ha Noi’s railway a step closer to reality
The final railway beams of the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway were inserted on Saturday, finishing the basic infrastructure of the skytrain project.
Completing this part of the project will create a viaduct system for the entire project and allow contractors to begin constructing railways, stations and trains.
According to the Ministry of Transport, funding for the project is fully prepared, so contractors can focus on speeding up construction.
It is expected that by the end of this year the project will complete construction, including all concrete work, stations, and paths. Equipment will be installed from January next year, taking about 6 months.

3) Northern mountainous region’s culture and tourism introduced in Ha Noi
The event is co-organised by Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang provinces in collaboration with the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism under the theme “Festival – identity, past and present in Viet Nam’s mountainous regions.”
The exhibition is divided into three sections, featuring each locality’s strength, including Lai Chau – the sonata of colours; Tuyen Quang – the historical region; and Ha Giang – the legendary buckwheat flowers.

4) Cham Islands get access to national grid
The popular tourist destination of the Cham Islands in the central province of Quang Nam has been connected to national power grid since September.
It is the result of a VND485 billion (USD21.5 million) power supply project signed between the provincial people’s committee and Vietnam Electricity
The access to the national grid makes the islanders very happy, particularly owners of restaurants and hotels who can now benefit from the increased number of travellers.
Duong Thi Anh, ower of Thu Trang guesthouse, said she had bought five air conditioners as part of the upgraded services.
Since the electricity was provided, her guesthouse had attracted more travellers.
