Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam has emphasised the need to provide better health care services for the elderly, by developing a standardised care system in health facilities and in the community, especially for those in rural and mountainous areas.

Localities should launch physical exercise movements among the elderly and make the performance of physical exercises of the elderly part of cultural festivals, he said during a Việt Nam National Committee for Elderly (VNCE)'s conference in Hà Nội on Tuesday. The Deputy PM noted that the Ministry of Health and Việt Nam Social Insurance were working together on a plan to make health records for individuals, which will firstly benefit senior citizens and children.

Enterprises, organisations and individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing support policies for seniors should be honoured, while public buildings should be designed to be friendly and accessible to the elderly, he stated. He also asked the Ministry of …

The situation continues, even though, two months ago, Deputy Prime Minister cum Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Trương Hòa Bình ordered authorised agencies to strictly deal with violations related to three-wheel vehicles.

Each hectare will yield an annual income of VNĐ170 million (US$7,700). The lands for the specialty fruits, mostly orange, mango, grapefruit and banana, will be zoned in Cầu Kè, Càng Long, Châu Thành, and Tiểu Cần districts. No choice but to step up fiscal prudence

Increased growth, reduced spending and less debt guarantees are the solutions as rising public debt and its repayment exerts a lot of pressure on the Government, Đặng Đức Anh, a senior official with the Ministry of Planning and Investment, tells Vietnam News Ageny (VNA). What is the status of Việt Nam's public debt?

According to the Government, the value of Việt Nam's public debt in 2016 will edge close to 65 per cent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) - the ceiling allowed by the National Assembly. The value of Government's debt could be 53.1 per cent of the GDP, higher than the ceiling. These numbers are estimated upon economic targets set by the Assembly and the Government at the beginning of the year. But macroeconomic results, on which the public debt is calculated, are lower than initial predictions. Therefore, unless the Government takes serious actions, this year's public debt will surpass the ceiling level of 65 per cent. Why has Việt Nam's …
